during the period of winter holidays, i have read a novel "vanity fair ".main circumstance of novel may divide two clues. a clue depicts the deceased poor painter's daughter becky after leaving pingkedun woman boarding school , stays temporarily at rich family miss amelia home, but she try to seduce amelia 's elder brother to enter good society. after this matter failed, becky comes to pitt crawley’s home as family teacher, at the same time she plays some cute means such as being unctuous, and ganging with to good use. but when pitt makes a proposal to becky after losing spouse,she has already married knight's son rawdon. another a clue write pure girl amelia being deeply in love of the officer george osborne, surmounts all obstacles finally getting married with him . but her husband abandons her very quickly right away. amelia is spoony to george, even if after her husband died ,she still is unwilling to get remarried to others. final, becky tells the fact that george made an appointment with self to elope before one's death , amelia agree get married. becky be abandoned because personal relationship is found that by the husband afterwards. her old age gets a sum of inheritance from another lover joseph in hand, charities beginning to be enthusiastic in.

the heroine, or more correctly the anti-heroine, is an intelligent young woman with a gift for satire. she is described as a petite sandy haired girl who has green eyes and a great deal of wit. fluent in both french and english, becky has a beautiful singing voice, plays the piano, and shows great talent as an actress.
she is also ***pletely amoral and without conscience. she does not seem to have the ability to get attached to other people, and lies easily and intelligently to get her way. she is extremely manipulative and, after the first few chapters and her failure to attract jos sedley, is not shown as being particularly sincere.
never having known financial or social security even as a child, becky desires it above all things. nearly everything she does is with the intention of securing a stable position for herself, or herself and her husband after she and rawdon are married. she advances rawdon's interests tirelessly, flirting with men such as general tufto and the marquess of steyne in order to get him promoted.
she also uses her feminine wiles to distract men at card parties while rawdon cheats them blind.
marrying rawdon crawley in secret was a mistake, as was running off instead of begging miss crawley's f***iveness. she also fails to manipulate miss crawley through rawdon so as to obtain an inheritance. although becky manipulates men very easily, she does not even try to cultivate the friendship of most women.
lady jane, the dobbin sisters, and lady steyne see right through her. amelia and (initially) miss crawley are exceptions to the rule.

amelia is becky's opposite: pale, passive, and emotionally devoted to her husband and son. she marries ge***e osborne against the wishes of ge***e's father, and when ge***e dies at the battle of waterloo she brings up little ge***e alone while living with her parents.
she is ***pletely dominated by her spendthrift father (who steals and sells the annuity ge***e's friends put together to try to support her) and her mother.
after ge***e osborne's death, amelia is obsessed with her son and with the memory of her husband. she ignores william dobbin, who courts her for years, and treats him shabbily until eventually he leaves. it is only after becky shows her ge***e's letter to her that amelia realizes what a good man dobbin is, although she has already written to him to ask him to ***e back.
she eventually marries dobbin.

rawdon, the younger of the two crawley sons, is an empty-headed cavalry officer who is his wealthy aunt's favorite until he marries becky sharp, who is of a far lower class. he permanently alienates his aunt, who leaves her estate to sir pitt instead. sir pitt has by this time inherited their father's estate, leaving rawdon quite poor.
the well-meaning rawdon has a few talents in life, most of which have to do with gambling and dueling. he is very good at cards and pool, and although he does not always win he is able to earn cash by betting against less talented gamblers. he is heavily indebted throughout most of the book, not so much for his own expenses as for becky's.
not particularly talented as a military officer, he is content to let becky manage his career.
although rawdon knows becky is attractive to men, he believes her reputation is spotless even though she is widely suspected of romantic intrigue with general tufto and other powerful men. nobody dares to suggest otherwise to rawdon because of his temper and his reputation for dueling. yet other people, particularly the marquess of steyne, find it impossible to believe that crawley is unaware of becky's tricks.
steyne in particular believes rawdon is fully aware becky is prostituting herself, and believes rawdon is going along with the charade in the hope of financial gain.

早在高中的時候,我就想,當我上大學的時候,我一定要去圖書館多泡泡??墒堑任艺嬲洗髮W了才發現這只是一個幻想。當聽到我們外語學院要舉辦第一屆讀書節的時候,我真是相當高興,終于有一個可以讓我好好讀書的動力了。
一直以來看來我都喜歡那種令人滿意的結局,雖然算不上皆大歡喜,不過也夠令人為主人公歡呼喝彩的了。好人終究有好報,這估計是大多數英國作家所推崇的英國式的結局,不管中間主人公經歷過多少風風雨雨,到最后必然是雨過天晴。名著的精神自然希望能帶給人們美好的一面,也就是說,金子終究會發光。
以中國話來說就是,好人有好報吧,看來這一俗語,中西皆適用??!
屈指數來,這算是我看過的第二部跨越時間較長的小說了,雖然薩克雷沒有像羅曼羅蘭描寫約翰·克里斯多夫那樣描寫都賓和愛米利亞的一生,但既然這對好人終成眷屬,不僅擁有名位和財產,還擁有了子女和真誠的朋友們,接下來的歲月不用說讀者也能猜得出來,就是他們的幸福生活了,所以還是讓他們早早謝幕,不被外人打擾吧!

現在我想,雖然我還是一個新生,但我很快就會踏入社會。既然我要去社會,我只擔心不能遇到都賓這樣的好朋友,也不擔心遇到蓓基這樣善于鉆研的人?,F實有多么美好,我實在說不清楚,如果要按照十分制的話,我估計能給個5分就不錯了。
薩克雷的戲劇從未中斷過。名利場終究會繼續上演。都賓、愛米利亞和蓓基只是許多人的代表。他們雖然去了,但會有更多的人來,包括你,我和我們的后代。

這幾天,我一直在讀《名利場》這本書,它深深地吸引了我。它不僅教會了我虛榮心就像一個魔鬼,不顧一切地追逐名利和榮華富貴,換來的只會是一場空,還使我們真真切切地了解到19世紀英國社會的不良風氣,充分懂得了“浮華若夢”的意義。
在書的開頭,有兩個主要人物,麗蓓卡和愛米莉亞,一個富人一個窮人。除了金錢上的巨大差異外,所受到的待遇,以及性格上都有很大的不同。瑞蓓卡口蜜腹劍、兩面三刀、陰險狠毒,野心勃勃地追逐名利,是“金錢是唯一主宰”的思想,使她在學校、在社會都飽受歧視,人情冷暖扭曲了她的思想。
而愛米莉亞,一個有錢人家的孩子,到**都受人寵愛,成長路上幾乎沒有如何的困難阻擋著她,正因如此,她不需要努力就能進入上流社會,所以變得天真善良,甚至有點傻里傻氣。通過對這兩個人物的介紹,可以看出英國社會是一個追求金錢和榮譽的世界;也說明了追求名利不僅會毀了自己,還會毀了別人,正是所謂的“害人害己”。
我也認為這種不良氣氛不僅存在與19世紀的英國社會,現在也存在,無論它在**,都表現出這種氣氛。書中寫著,瑞蓓卡是一朵“飄零的落花”。可是,生活中處處都存在著一朵朵的“飄零的落花”,正是因為對生活的不服,對名利的不服,造就了她或者他們的追逐名利的腳步。
隨著故事情節的發展,瑞蓓卡看似一步步地要走向上流社會的同時(當然最后的結果就是虛榮覆滅),我并不開心,反而感到惡心、厭煩;而天真善良的愛米莉亞雖然遭遇了種種不幸,我也很同情她,但她總比瑞蓓卡要好的多,不用做那些拼盡全力卻還是竹籃打水一場空的事情。我想作者薩克雷一定也有同樣的想法。
終于到結局了,但卻并不如我所想:一般的**結局說不上十分圓滿,但至少也讓人欣慰??墒?,在《名利場》里,雖然愛米莉亞最終和都賓過上幸福的社會,算不上是全部的悲劇,可是急功近利追逐名利的瑞蓓卡卻落得一場空,只好投身于慈善事業中……
這本書充滿了作者薩克雷對名利世界和虛榮社會的諷刺。可是,他何嘗又不是身在名利場中?瑞蓓卡、愛米莉亞、都賓都只是名利場中的幾個代表,你,我,他們,以后都會踏入名利場,踏入這個險惡的世界。
時代在變,而名利場永遠不變。世界人民,我們什么時候才能擺脫無邊無際的名利場?

人們只是不斷地用各種力量推進所謂的上流社會,忘記了真情和友情。金錢和權利成了他們唯一的追求。然而金錢再多,權利再高,總是會有一個極限,而人的貪婪的心則永遠也無法填滿,誰也走不出這名與利所編織的網,它往往會掐住你的脖子讓你身不由己。

我慢慢到了一個遲鈍的階段,小說只是讀一下,卻不在有太多感想;并不會批判書中的負面典型人物,只不過是每個人的選擇不同而已。人與人之間不需要制造那么多界線,不存在絕對的道德律令,一方面從時間上來看:過去是道德的現在可能是不道德的,過去不道德的現在可能是道德;另一方面空間上來看:不同國家和民族對于道德的定義和范圍各不相同。從解釋的主體來看,不同人對于歷史事件解讀不同,賦予了歷史事件不同的意義。
這本書讀起來文筆樸實,蓓基和愛米麗亞是學生時代的好朋友,蓓基出身貧苦,一心想要在上流社會謀求一席之地;愛米麗亞家境殷實,善良,她只想著與自己的男友喬治過最普通的生活。蓓基與愛米麗亞一起離開學校,蓓基在愛米麗亞家居住一段時間后,去克勞萊爵士家當家庭教師。蓓基在愛米麗亞家居住期間,與愛米麗亞的哥哥喬瑟夫情投意合,由于地位差距,并沒有在一起。蓓基到克勞萊爵士家后,與克勞萊爵士的二兒子秘密結婚,婚姻并沒有為蓓基帶來她想要的名利和財富,蓓基與丈夫沒有經濟來源卻過上了出手闊綽的生活。蓓基依靠與不同男士周旋獲得一定財富,被丈夫發現后,與丈夫離婚,蓓基生活狀況越來越遭;日后蓓基在與喬瑟夫重逢后,嫁給了資產優厚的喬瑟夫。
